This
vision would include the Magoebaskloof community, the goal to improve
tourism,
and benefit local charities. Soon the Rotary, Lions and Roundtable
clubs of
tzaneen were involved, the initial race proving a success. Growth was
spectacular, from 162 riders in 1999 to almost 1000 in 2003. Entries in
subsequent years averaged around 750 riders.
New
Beginning
Starting
and finishing at
the
Magoebaskloof
hotel the challenge consisted of two spectacular routes
through
the Magoebaskloof Mountains. A 80 km ride for the somewhat crazy and an
easier 40 km ride for the tired and lazy (woosies) ;-)
Both routes take riders
through
forested areas, along logging tracks, fire breaks, jeep and some
singletrack.
Portage is also included.
Initially
the tea
plantations, were part of the route, this is no longer the case ! The
replacement
however, equall if not more impressive.
The long climb of some 23 km,
from the
tea estates to the high point is no longer part of the route, the new
climbs
however are equally challenging.

So
far we have received hundreds of emails expressing their interest
in a spring
event in the area. We are busy discussing this possibility.
To
everyone who emailed praise
for the organisers, thank you. It is very much appreciated

New
for 2011...
In
2008, a new route was
designed which effectively moved away from the tea
estates, and into
the
Woodbush Forest reserve.
The
orginisers have gone
out of their way to provide a route that is challenging, comprising
difficult
climbs, steep descents, spectacular views and awesome forest scenery.
Forestry
plantations, of Pine and Saligna ,indigenous closed canopy forest,
crystal
clear mountain streams, and the beautiful Dap Naude dam, are some of
the
delights to be found along the trail. Included would be a view of some
of the
tallest trees in Africa, and spectacular indigenous trees including
yellow
Woods.
The
trails comprise a 80
km Ride and
for those less fit ;) a
40km.
The
Fun Run!
The fun run, designed with family in
mind is perfect to
get the youngsters interested in the great outdoors and in their
personal health.

The
Kiddie Trail
The kiddies mountain bike trail of 10 km
has been
designed to incorporate great views and is a fun filled afternoon for
the all of the
family.
Riders
in previous years
have commented on and heaped praise upon the organising committee
regarding the
organisation, terrain and challenging route.
Accommodation
may be
found in one of several hotels in the area, as well as bed and
breakfast
venues, guesthouses as well as several camping facilities.
Don't
be disappointed,

We
look forward to seeing our old friends, as
well as the first timers!
